Tis the season of giving – and being savvy doesn’t mean you should never be less than generous. Especially when it comes to giving presents to yourself and your family! So here’s a guide to some of the savvy deals out there when it comes to staying entertained over the festive season.
TV /Streaming:
No matter how much of a humbug you are, there’s nothing like getting all nostalgic with a classic movie in front of the fire. Sure, you’ve seen it 138 times by now but that’s part of the charm… And besides your brain shouldn’t deal with anything too complicated. This year we’re excited to see what all the mainstream channels have in store – as well as what’s available to stream.
Here’s a list of free/cheap TV deals that you can watch online, through your smart TV or via a streaming device like a Fire TV Stick or Chromecast.
Channel 4’s website and All4 app works in Ireland and contains some great free box sets like Derry Girls, It's a Sin & Shameless. It has classic comedy like Father Ted, The IT Crowd & Inbetweeners. And it has movies as well.
Although the ads can be infuriating, the RTE player is a good way to catch-up on TV that you missed. Boxsets include Love/Hate, Line of Duty, Peaky Blinders, Normal People & The Good Wife.
Virgin's Media Player has nearly 200 shows including boxsets of Graham Norton Show, Real Housewives and The Voice
If you have Sky or know someone who does, you might be able to avail of 6 months free Apple TV. Series include Bad Sisters, The Morning Show & Slow Horses.
If you're not already an Amazon Prime member, you get a 30 free trial that includes access to Prime Video which features award-winning box sets like Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Fleabag and Jack Ryan plus thousands of movies.
For some festive sport, you can get 4 months Sky Sports with Now TV for €22 per month. This can be shared between up to 3 different users/households - so it can work out at just over €7 a month each.
Books/reading:
