About the Recipe

Looking to spice up your breakfast life? Look no further than Shakshuka. This Middle Eastern dish is made by cooking eggs in a flavorful tomato sauce.

Using some of our budget-friendly tomato sauce recipe as a base, you can quickly cook up this Shakshuka recipe.

Grab your oven-proof dish and crack open some eggs. Get ready to bake up a Shakshuka that's sure to impress.

Ingredients

  • Pre-made Tomato sauce (tomatos, basil, garlic, chilli, peppers, tinned tomatoes)

  • 3-4 Eggs

  • Handful of Coriander

  • Bagels / Toast

Preparation

Step 1

The evening before you plan on having the Shakshuka - make some tomato sauce (see our recipe here) or defrost some if you've already got some at hand.

Step 2

Pre-heat oven to 160c. Pour some of the tomato sauce into an oven proof round casserole dish. There should be enough sauce to cover at least the bottom inch of the dish.

Step 3

Crack open an egg into a bowl. Use a large spoon / wooden spoon to create holes in the sauce. Pour the egg into the hole. Repeat this for each egg. Place dish with lid on into the preheated oven at 160C for 8 - 10 minutes.

Step 4

Take the dish out of the oven. An optional step is to add coriander. It definitely makes it look nicer in pictures!

While I use the oven, this recipe could also be cooked in a deep frying pan.
